Adidas was founded in 1924 by brothers Adolph and Rudolph Dassler in Germany under the original name of Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory. In 1949, Adolf “Adi” Dassler and his brother parted ways, with Adi taking over the brand and renaming it “adidas” for the first three letters of both his first and last names. Beginning as a manufacturer of track and field spikes, adidas eventually expanded into producing footwear for virtually every sport in existence, and is now the world’s second-largest athletic shoe brand behind Nike.
