Adidas was founded in 1924 by brothers Adolph and Rudolph Dassler in Germany under the original name of Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory. In 1949, Adolf “Adi” Dassler and his brother parted ways, with Adi taking over the brand and renaming it “adidas” for the first three letters of both his first and last names. Beginning as a manufacturer of track and field spikes, adidas eventually expanded into producing footwear for virtually every sport in existence, and is now the world’s second-largest athletic shoe brand behind Nike.
Adidas has the richest archive of footwear in the industry, with an almost countless number of classic styles released throughout the years. Many of the brand’s most popular, timeless styles from years past are still in production today, released under the adidas Originals imprint such as the Stan Smith, Superstar, Pro Model, Samba Classic, Gazelle, and adilette slide sandals. The Originals department also releases all-new models with inspiration from classics with modern materials and silhouettes. Examples of the heritage-meets-modern adidas Originals sneakers include the NMD, EQT Support ADV, EQT Support 93/17, EQT Cushion ADV, and Prophere.
In addition to their popular heritage sneakers, adidas is regarded as one of the most technologically advanced sportswear brands, consistently releasing innovative footwear and apparel with the best in athletic performance for multiple sports. The most notable sports that adidas outfits include running, basketball, soccer, and training/fitness. One the brand’s most important innovations in recent years is Boost foam technology introduced in 2015, the innovative energy-returning cushioning platform that has revolutionized adidas performance and casual footwear with unprecedented comfort.
No adidas sneaker model is currently more popular than the Ultra Boost running shoe. Its wide appeal is the result of a design that perfectly combines a high-performance and fully functional running shoe with a stylish look in demand with casual sneakerheads.
Another noteworthy imprint of the adidas brand is Kanye West’s adidas Yeezy line, featuring highly coveted limited edition releases of his stylish models including the Yeezy Boost 350 v2, Yeezy Boost 700, and Yeezy 500. Many adidas Yeezy sneakers are available at Foot Locker on their respective release dates in limited quantities.
