When Worlds Collide

In 2006, Nike and Jordan decided to take all the best elements of five iconic shoe designs and combine them. With these elements, they made one incredible sneaker: the Jordan Spizike.

The Jordan Spizike isn’t just an amazing sneaker. It’s a symbol of different worlds coming together.

Hollywood director and writer Spike Lee played a character named Mars Blackmon in his 1986 film “She’s Gotta Have It.” Mars is an Air Jordan-obsessed Brooklynite, and the character’s passion for the brand led to cameos in ’80s and ’90s Air Jordan commercials. He starred in these commercials alongside none other than the Michael Jordan.

Finally, 20 years after the film, Air Jordan released a shoe to honor this collaboration between the worlds of Hollywood and basketball. The name “Spizike” is a combination of Spike and Mike, the two legends represented who inspired the shoe.

The Jordan Spizike combines various elements of all five Jordan sneakers Mars Blackmon wore in the movie. It’s a blend of the Air Jordan 3, 4, 5, 6, and 20 sneakers, giving you the best of each model.

All the Best Pieces of Jordan

So, how do these five sneakers come together to form the Jordan Spizike? We’ll break it down for you.

The Jordan 3’s graphic elephant print, thick midsole, and structured outsole all found their way into the Spizikes. At first glance, the Spizike seems like an iteration of the 3, sharing an outsole silhouette and notable print. However, the 3 is simply the foundation.

We love that they chose the Jordan 4’s wings and plastic eyelets for the Spizike. These features offer a sleek and almost industrial vibe, making these shoes visually magnetic and super durable.

You can see the Jordan 5’s mesh window and bumped ankle collar in the design. The mesh window keeps the shoe lightweight and breathable while the collar cushions the ankle. The elements from the Jordan 5 enhanced the comfort of the Spizike.

From the Jordan 6, they took the leather tongue and lace cover, two chic elements. The lace cover advances the shoe’s construction and the leather tongue elevates the quality. These distinct additions give the Spizikes a luxurious feel.

Jordan 20 gifted the Spizikes with a soft inner lining and the “Everything Michael Jordan” graphic print. This print features various small symbols, like the Jumpman, basketballs, and hoops, close together for a dynamic and artistic appearance.

Crisp and Cool Colorways

The OG Spizike design was a bright white with firetruck red and basil green. Since the release, edgier colorways have come out. You can find cool blues, spicy reds, soft greys, rich blacks, warm browns, vibrant oranges, and more.

With contemporary patterns, clever colorblocking, and striking color combinations, Spizike is one of the most stylish Jordan sneakers.
