Get More With the New Balance 990 V4
Every iteration of the 990 has something to love, but the v4 sneakers have a special place in our hearts. The fourth release of the NB 990 is unapologetically New Balance.
If you’re a New Balance fan, your closet isn’t complete without the New Balance 990 v4.
A Step in the 990’s Evolution
The 990 v4 came out in 2016, decades after the OG 990 v1 release. NB knew the 990 was iconic and re-released it just in time for the “dad shoe” trend. The chunky but elegant silhouette tapped into a style that was only just forming.
What made the v4 different? NB leaned into its branding, enlarging the logo on the upper and adjusting the materials to suit the new look. Aside from this small change, they only adjusted the design by adding their newest sneaker tech to enhance comfort and stability.
NB balanced modern trends with this iconic silhouette to create a 990 iteration that felt nostalgic yet current.
That New Balance 990 Comfort
Like all the New Balance 990 shoes, the v4 sneakers are supremely comfortable and supportive.
The sneaker uses ENCAP midsole cushioning, combining a lightweight foam layer and a tough polyurethane rim. The foam offers a plush, shock-absorbing surface, while the rim improves structural integrity for a solid feel.
The v4 uses the familiar combination of leather, pigskin suede, and mesh on the upper. The pigskin suede creates that smooth and luxurious appearance. Thanks to the leather overlays, the shoe is easy to clean and extra durable. Finally, the mesh lightens the kicks and ventilates your feet, keeping you cool and dry.
The tough rubber outsole delivers incredible traction on all surfaces and helps absorb extra shock impact. Reflective details enhance safety and create a high-tech look. Soft cotton laces allow you to customize the fit so they feel just right.
The V4 Core Colorways
Here’s the thing about the New Balance 990 — they come in classic colors. You’ll find ageless and elegant colorways that stand the test of time and work with every aesthetic.
You can feel as breezy as a cloud in the chilly grey models or add some shine to your wardrobe with the silver styles. Keep it classy wearing all-black v4 sneakers featuring white and grey accents. Opt for something warmer and softer with the cream and eggshell white colorways.
If you want more color, you can find refined and understated baby blue, ocean blue, olive green, dusty blue, and emerald green iterations.
New Balance 990 v4 sneakers are rarely monochromatic. The designs use various shades and tones of the same color for a contrasting effect. Or, they’ll use subtle colors in the details for a chic look.
